The Solidarity Fund offers families at risk of social exclusion help to pay their water consumption. The fund was created in 2012 and is managed in coordination with the social services of the municipalities from the metropolitan area supplied by Aigües de Barcelona and Sorea.
On 22 March 2013, coinciding with World Water Day, mayors and representatives from the town councils where Aigües de Barcelona is present and from Barcelona Metropolitan Area signed the extension of the coverage of this fund and the protocol to ensure an efficient application, starting from an assessment by the municipal social services.
This fund is also applicable in the case of the agreements the Foundation has signed with Caritas, Creu Roja Catalunya and Obra Social ”la Caixa”’s Fundación de la Esperanza, with the objective of subsidizing the water service for the people cared for by these social organisations.
Since launching the Solidarity Fund, the Agbar Foundation has granted over 42,000 forms of aid, benefitting thousands of families.
