The Agbar Foundation yesterday presented the €32,262 collected from the summer ‘Hunger doesn’t go on holiday’ campaign to Banc dels Aliments. At an event held at the Foundation’s headquarters, Victòria Eugènia Martínez, director of the Agbar Foundation, presented the donation to Eduardo Arruga, president of Banc dels Aliments.
Coinciding with the move of its employees from the Agbar Tower, the Agbar Foundation organised a number of charity activities for the summer food collection campaign ‘Hunger doesn’t go on holiday’.
- In June, the 2nd charity stair climb at the Agbar Tower raised €1,657.
- During the July weekends, the solidarity visits to the Agbar Tower gave 4,500 people the chance to see inside this emblematic Barcelona building. The initiative mobilised over 60 volunteers, including workers from the Agbar Group and representatives of Banc dels Aliments, and raised €17,215.
- The Agbar Tower furniture auction, for company workers and the general public was an initiative that managed to raise €13,390.
In addition, both foundations signed an agreement by which the Agbar Foundation will donate €20,000 to this non-profit organisation. This is the 7th consecutive year that the Agbar Foundation has donated to Banc dels Aliments, an organisation that works to ease problems of hunger, marginalisation, unemployment and poverty in the city and province of Barcelona, by collecting and redistributing food surpluses and donations. Thanks to the efforts of 219 volunteers, Banc dels Aliments distributed over 16,000 tonnes of food in 2014.
The Great Food Drive needs volunteers
On 27 and 28 November, the Great Food Drive will once again be held in Catalonia. For a further year, the Agbar Foundation will be collaborating with the 6th such campaign to collect basic foods. In 2014, the Great Food Drive collected 4,686 tonnes at over 2,000 collection points with the help of 22,000 volunteers. The target for 2015 is to reach a similar figure through the help of 25,000 volunteers. To volunteer, click here.
