The Agbar Foundation signs agreements with Obra Social “la Caixa”’s Fundación de la Esperanza and Creu Roja Catalunya
The manager of Aigües de Barcelona, Ignacio Escudero, signed agreements to subsidize the water supply service of the most vulnerable of those being cared for by these charity organizations with Marc Simón, director of the Fundación de la Esperanza, and Antonio Aguilera, chairman of Creu Roja Catalunya.
The aid is intended to facilitate access to basic water consumption for those most vulnerable, estimated at 100 litres per person per day according to the criteria set by the World Health Organization (WHO), and forms part of the Agbar Foundation Solidarity Fund. This fund, created in 2012 by Aigües de Barcelona, is aimed at families in precarious economic situations and is managed in collaboration with the municipal social services of town councils in the Barcelona metropolitan area, Caritas, the Red Cross and, from now on, the Fundación de la Esperanza, an Obra Social “la Caixa” institution that works to improve the lives of the most vulnerable among us.
The previous agreement signed with Creu Roja Catalunya in 2013 only covered people over 65. Under this new agreement, the subsidy applies to everyone being cared for under the charity's poverty aid programmes.
Since it was set up, the Agbar Foundation's Solidarity Fund has awarded 42,000 forms of aid, which equates to an investment of over 2.4 million euros.
