Aigües de Barcelona extends the agreement with Cáritas to subsidize the water service for the most vulnerable people received by this social institution

By virtue of this agreement, which extends the one signed with this social institution in February 2013, Aigües de Barcelona will subsidize the water service for the people received by Cáritas with difficulties to pay the water bill, and will help all the people resident in the social housing for rent that Cáritas manages together with the Foment de l’Habitatge Social Foundation, in addition to those who live in the shared flats of this charitable institution.

The subsidy is foreseen to aid access to the basic water consumption of the most vulnerable people, estimated as 100 litres per person and day according to criteria established by the World Health Organization (WHO), and forms part of the Agbar Foundation’s Solidarity Fund. This fund, created in 2012 by Aigües de Barcelona, is intended for families in a precarious economic situation and is managed in collaboration with the municipal social services of the town councils of Barcelona Metropolitan Area, Cáritas and the Red Cross. Since it was set up, the Agbar Foundation’s Solidarity Fund has granted 30,000 subsidies, which have benefited 9,000 families, representing an investment of €1.7m.
