Viladecans Town Council and the Agbar Foundation collaborate for the second year running on the “They are Specialists” educational programme

The Mayor of Viladecans, Carles Ruiz, and the Director General of Aigües de Barcelona and Managing Trustee of the Agbar Foundation, Ignacio Escudero, signed the second consecutive agreement today to carry out the “They are Specialists” project, in order to discover and promote the talent of young people between 14 and 16 years old.

The initiative inspires secondary education teachers from Viladecans to accompany the pupils in the discovery of the skills which make them unique and to involve the families in this process, with the aim of helping to improve the educational success of the pupils from this cycle, an objective shared by the Town Council and the Agbar Foundation. It should be taken into account that early school leaving affects almost a third of young people in Spain at the age of completing compulsory education, and represents double that of the European average.

The project, which has been implemented for the second year running in nine schools of Viladecans, focuses on young people between 14 and 16 years old, a key age at which boys and girls have to define their next academic and professional steps. “They are Specialists” is based on a model of educational support, in which the teaching staff helps each of the pupils to discover their skills and talents, highlighting and promoting what makes them unique with the aim of helping them to find and follow their academic and professional path. In this project, which includes the participation of the illustrator Miguel Gallardo and the artist Hanoch Piven, the pupil is not a passive subject, but rather the creator of their own future.

A project included within Aulas Creativas

"They are Specialists" is carried out within the framework of Aulas Creativas (www.aulascreativas.net), a virtual and face-to-face meeting space whose objective is to inspire school teachers and educators in order to help them to encourage creativity in the classroom, and which has over 40,000 followers throughout Spain and Latin America. With this educational project, which forms part of this platform, we want to take one step more and also encourage the talent of school pupils.
